New Video: Big K.R.I.T. – I Ain’t Shit

K.R.I.T. (AKA my favorite underground rapper) drops another classic. The and the video vividly paints a picture of my life after college (no job, no money, video games and pizza). One of the hardest things for an artist to do is reflect real life in there music and make it sound good but it seems like K.R.I.T. has found that sweet spot. From his mixtape to this video to his performances, this kid is killing everything.

Event Re-Cap: Kanye West – Runaway Premiere

So I was invited to checkout the premiere of Kanye’s short-film/video “Runaway” by my homie Jycorri Robinson from Def Jam and I ended up waiting about 3 hours to see the video (WTF this guy is never on time) but I can honestly say it was worth the wait.

THE FILM REVIEW:

Visuals: 9.5
Music: 10
Storyline: 6.5
Acting: 5.0
Overall Rating: 9.0

Summary:
Kanye is an incredible musical artist and I love his music to death but when I found out he was making a film, I thought it was a huge mistake. I walked in the theater expecting the equivalent of Ramen Noodles and I left having eaten a four course meal at Tao. The first thing that catches your attention while watching this film is the clean/crisp visual that Kanye provides. From the contreversial scence of white servants to the hooded KKK looking people, the visuals were on point. The crisp colors and camera angels in the beginning definitely sets the tone for the rest of the video. But the unfortunate part about this video is the fact that they didn’t show Selita Ebanks’ titties enough (jk). No but really, the unfortunate part is, the storyline didn’t live up to the visuals of the video. I understood the concept of the video but honestly it could of been conveyed in a different way. The way it was conveyed was way too literal and obvious. The story should of been a little smoother and abstract to match the visuals. But other than that the film was amazing, from the car, to the animals, to Selita Ebanks titties, to the running scene. Everything was on point. Bravo Kanye. Bravo.

Dont forget to catch the TV premiere of “Runaway” on MTV Oct. 23rd 8pm

MY EVENT STORY

The event was held in an independent movie theater in the Lower East Side, where there was an open bar for wine, beer and of course popcorn (i was killing that popcorn). The door was a mess as you can expect and everybody that was trying to get in swore they were somebodies uncle or cousin (I hate when people pull that card).

Me and my friends ended up getting in fine but once we were in we ended up having to wait 3 hours in the hallway to see the film because one of the projectors weren’t working. So we ended up waiting until the first showing was over. But it ened up working out for the best because there were only about 30 people in the second showing and I got to meet Ye personally (i can call him Ye now because we).

So eventually we ended up getting into the theater with small group of people that were left. Kanye steps to the front and gives (I’ll finish this story later. i have some things to do. my bad)

Big K.R.I.T. – Big K.R.I.T. Wuz Here (Mixtape)

Ummmm, I know this mixtape was released a while ago but considering I didn’t have a blog back then… I’m going to post it now.

Big K.R.I.T. is without a doubt my favorite underground rapper at the time. He blends his raw Mississippi country slang, with the consciences and storytelling ability of some of my favorite east-coast rappers (without sounding preachy). And crazy thing is…. this kid makes his own beats. After listening to the first two songs of his mixtape I was sold. So if you need some new joints to fill you iPod with, this is definitely a good look.

Kid Cudi – MOTM II Campaign (Album Cover Reveal)

As promised, I plan on walking you through the marketing and promotion stage of releasing an album. And as some of you know, today we released the cover of Kid Cudi’s highly anticipated album “Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager”.

If I may say so myself (without sounding like Im overselling the album), this cover is best that I’ve seen all year. The lighting along with the aged look of the cover prepares you for the overall theactrical feel of Cudi’s album. Im a HUGE believer in visuals because they play a big part in setting the tone and feel of an album. When you listen to music, you automatically create some kind of visual in your head and the visual you create is usually a derivative of the visuals you’ve already seen from the artist. And this Cudi album cover nails it.

The Reveal:

Where: Facebook – We choose to reveal the cover on Facebook because of the viral potential of the platform and because of the 2.7 million fans Cudi has on Facebook.

When: We released the cover as soon as it was approved. The approval process for this cover was a bitch and we were already a little behind schedule on releasing it, so we wanted to get it out there as soon as possible. The back and forth between a label and artist management is crazier than you would think (its usually all for the best though).

Fun Facts:

1. This album photo shot was over two months ago in a mansion in upstate New York.
2. The photos inside the insert are a 100 times crazier than the cover
3. The original album cover looked 10 times better. The original didn’t have the stars (the stars were photoshoped in).
